My name is Alex and I am the owner of ARETE.

ARETE was started back in 2020. I always wanted to start a business and during COVID and lockdown in the UK it was a great time for me to give this everything I had.

In Greek mythology ARETE means excellence of any kind, the fulfilment of purpose or function, the act of living up to one’s full potential. A person of ARETE uses all their faculties, strength, bravery and wit to achieve real results in life. So when someone wears our clothing that is what they become.

The idea to start a mixed martial arts inspired clothing brand came from me purchasing t-shirts with MMA designs online. However, I found the options available were always low quality often shrinking in the wash and not a great material, but also the designs were very cheesy and basic and wasn’t something I wanted to wear.

So I wanted to solve this problem I had, as I felt there might be a lot more people that maybe felt the same way.

Which is when I created ARETE. ARETE’s purpose is for MMA fans to be able to represent their love of MMA though the clothing that they wear and for our clothing to be heavyweight, have high quality printing, be reasonably priced and of course have graphic designs inspired by mixed martial arts.

My aim is for ARETE to keep creating new and better designs, collaborate with MMA fighters, sell more internationally and be stocked in retail stores.

I want MMA fans to recognise other people wearing our clothing and to start conversations and bond over their mutual interest in MMA. That’s what ARETE is all about — quality, community, and representing the sport we love.
